Assignment #1: Universal Symbols

Personal Response: I enjoyed this assignment because it gave me the opportunity to make symbols of my own. It was awesome to see my sketchbook creation come to life. After I made some changes to the contrast of the symbols, they ended up looking real instead of just simple sketches. 

1. The first symbol stands for the concept of loving the environment. I believe that the human population as a whole needs to be more aware of what they are doing to the world. If we don't change our polluting ways, we will end up living in piles of trash. That is what my first symbols stands for.

2. The second symbol stands for no sleeping in class. In order for students to grow in their education, they have to be awake and paying attention. When students sleep, it prevents them from absorbing what is being taught to them. I believe that students shouldn't sleep in class and that is what the second symbol shows. 

3. The third symbol stands for seeing the happiness. I think that everyone would live a healthier life if they allowed themselves to see the the better side of things. People who are unhappy all of the time don't see all of the amazing things life has to offer. I believe that people should see the happiness and that is what the third symbols stands for.


Assignment #2: Geometric Self Portrait

In this assignment, I used a complementary color scheme with blues and yellows. The opposite colors make my hair and jacket stand out more. The tools that I used to make my self portrait were: the blob brush tool, the shape tool, and the pen tool. I utilized the pen tool the most in this assignment because it allowed me to make any shape. I think that this picture looks pretty accurate compared to my actual face. However, I could have added more shading in the face area to make it more realistic. I think this was an overall successful assignment.

Assignment #3: Fantasy Collage 

Level 2

In this scene, there is a famous DJ named Electronica and her fans are cheering for her at the top of their lungs. Their hands are out in hopes of touching her, but they can't reach her raised neon stand. She shows off her skills to everyone while remixing famous and popular songs. My favorite part of the final outcome of this assignment is the mixture of neon colors. I think that the colors in this photo blend well together. My least favorite is the hands of Electronica. It was difficult to change the colors to make everything match. If I were to do it another time, I would work more on blending the human parts to the non human parts. 

Assignment #4: Book Cover 

I chose this book because Abraham Lincoln is such an important and famous person in history. My favorite part of this cover is his face in the center of the front cover. I like how the cover makes it seem like he is the light surrounded by darkness. My least favorite part is the inside front cover where the author bio is. I don't like how small the writing is and how little space I had to write it. Next time, I would choose a smaller book, so I wouldn't have to go back and change the dimensions. I would also try to use more color in the cover so the whole appearance would stand out more. It was challenging to fit all of the words onto the cover in a proportional way. This assignment helped me further my knowledge and skill in Photoshop.
